Disorient – Desorientar – “Hacer que alguien pierda la orientación o el conocimiento de la posición que ocupa geográfica o topográficamente.” “Confundir, ofuscar, extraviar.”
Desorientación (gr. dys, negación, dificultad; lt. oriri, aparecer, nacer). f. Estado de confusión mental caracterizado por una percepción inadecuada o incorrecta de lugar, tiempo o identidad.
Disorient asume el carácter desconcertador del movimiento espiral, el cual se asumió primero durante el proceso creativo con la intención confiesa de desconcertar luego al espectador a través de una performance y de imágenes que le procuraran una experiencia totalmente diferente de la performance.
Nuestro concepto interdisciplinario y sobre todo la voluntad de compartir nuestro gesto respectivo imponía trabajar en un mismo espacio. Las residencias artísticas, especialmente en el caso de las colaboraciones, permiten volver a uno mismo, resucitar memorias o incluso partes de nuestro subconsciente. La residencia en la Neomudéjar, con sus largas horas de diálogo total, nos permitió descubrir convergencias entre nuestras prácticas que desconocíamos.

El proyecto “Disorient” es fruto de muchos años de investigación y practica. Las investigaciones sobre las raíces rituales del arte de la performance y sobre la trance y estados de conciencia alterados durante el acto mismo, han resultado en una libertad de creación artística infinita.
Después de años deseando trabajar junto con Ludivine, DISORIENT se ha creado finalmente durante nuestra residencia artística en marzo y abril de 2016 en el Museo La Neomudéjar.
Habíamos imaginado un encuentro centrado en la creación de una performance , una escenografía, una obra de vídeoarte. Pero el espacio y la inspiración nos han llevado mas allá y el resultado está siendo sorprendente. Ahora el proyecto DISORIENT cuenta con dibujos, grabados, creación holográfica y video inmersivo, composición sonora (creada exclusivamente con grabaciones de campo), fotografía digital y analógica y la performance.
Durante la residencia presentamos el concepto DISORIENT en el marco de una conferencia/performance y al final de la residencia una performance y instalación video.
El proyecto sigue desarrollándose a la medida de los lugares que visita. Cada presentación es distinta – las obras expuestas se elijen específicamente para el sitio y modificamos la performance según el espacio y la energía del momento.
DISORIENT vuelve al Museo La Neomudéjar con fotografías digitales y analógicas, telas y dibujos de Ludivine Allegue y una instalación video – un trabajo común que propone un enfoque distinto de lo habitual y otra manera de grabar y moverse para y con las cámaras.

Cuando el lingüista Jean-Claude Coquet evoca el lapso de tiempo que articula la phusis (el mundo sensible) y el logos (la expresión de este mundo) nos recuerda el papel fundamental de la phusis y considera el logos como el resultado de nuestra percepción y experiencia de la inmanencia del mundo. De esta manera, observando la medida en que la expresión emerge de la percepción, y por lo tanto del cuerpo, Coquet rehabilita el cuerpo como co-constituyente del pensamiento y nos remite al cuerpo como herramienta de conocimiento.
Es especialmente significativo en el contexto de la creación artística ya que el gesto del artista enuncia el cuerpo como receptáculo del mundo. Un cuerpo que comprende y manifiesta mediante la materia nuestro agarre sobre la inmanencia, el modo en el que pensamos lo humano.
Por eso el proceso de creación, nuestro gesto, debía ser para nosotras el centro del proyecto. Colaboré en el pasado con Julius Fujak fuera del taller. Yo pintaba y él componía piezas cortas que intercambiábamos por correo postal. Pintar en correspondencia con otro arte y otro artista mediante un intercambio que no se desarrolla en un lugar y un tiempo común proporciona una experiencia muy distinta al hecho de pintar mientras se recibe cada paso del recorrido del otro artista, juntos en el tiempo y el espacio. Esta recepción mutua del arte del otro transforma el proceso personal porque se vuelve necesariamente transpersonal. Compartiendo los pasos del proceso creativo del otro, es al Otro a quien recibimos: otra visión, otra enunciación del mundo, otro mundo.

Etym. and hist.: 1650’s from French désorienter, “to cause to lose one’s bearings”, literally “to turn from the east”, from dés- + orient. Related: Disoriented; disorienting.

Disorientation (gr. dys, negation, difficulty; lt. orire, oriri, to appear, to rise). State of mental confusion characterized by inaccurate or false perception of space, time or identity.
Disorient takes the puzzling and disconcerting essence of the spiralling/whirling repetitive movement as its primary tool for creative process with the clear intention to disorientate an audience through the live performance and through images that attempt a totally different experience from the one witnessed during the live performance.
Our interdisciplinary approach and most of all our intention to share our respective gestures required working in the same space. Artistic residencies, especially in case of collaboration, permit to return to one self, to revive our memories or even parts of our subconscious. Long working hours during the residence at La Neomudéjar allowed us the total dialogue and discovery of unknown convergences between our practices.

Project “Disorient” is a result of many years of research and practice. I have been researching into ritual roots of performance art, trance and states of altered consciousness during the act of performing itself. It inspired me and liberated my creativity.
After many years of desire to work with Ludivine, DISORIENT was finally created during our art residency in March and April 2016 in the Museum/Avant-guard Art Centre La Neomudéjar in Madrid.
At first we wanted to create a performance, a scenography and a video piece, but the space and the inspiration that it induced took us into an unpredictable adventure that kept surprising us. The result was astonishing. Now the project contains drawings, engravings, field-recorded sounds, holograms, immersive video installations, soundscape, painting, photography – both digital and analogue – and a performance.
During the residence we presented the concept of DISORIENT within a lecture-performance and a video installation and performance at the end of our residence.
The project continues to develop, modifying itself according to the locations that exhibit its artwork.
Every presentation is different – works to be exposed are site-specifically selected and the performance transforms itself according to the location and the energy present in the moment.
DISORIENT returns to the Museum/Avant-guard Art Centre La Neomudéjar with digital and analogue photography prints, canvases and drawings of Ludivine Allegue as well as a video installation – our common work that proposes an unusual way of filming and moving (for and with the cameras).

When the linguist Jean-Claude Coquet evokes the laps of time articulating the phusis (perceptible world) and the logos (the expression of that world), he reminds us of the fundamental role of phusis and considers logos as the result of our inherent perception and experience of the world. In this way, observing the ways through which expression emerges from perception, and therefore from the body, Coquet rehabilitates the body as co-constituent of thought and brings us back to the body as a tool for knowledge.
It is especially significant in the context or artistic creation – the gesture of an artist confirms the body as holder of the world. A body that understands and manifests the way we perceive humanity through what is real and concrete.
Hence the creative process, our gesture as its core, should be the centre of the project.
In the past I collaborated with composer Julius Fujak, that time out of the studio. I was painting and he was composing musical pieces that we were exchanging by traditional post. The work did not evolve in the same space and was extremely different from the one that shares the same space and time, receiving every step of the other artist, breathing together. This interchangeability and immediacy transforms the personal process into a transpersonal one. By sharing the steps of the creative process with the other, it is the Other itself that we are receiving: other vision, other enunciation of the world – other world.
