Marc Janus – Victimas y Olvido – Exposición – Pintura

Namaste.

English:
“Victims and oblivion” is a tribute, a direct challenge to the Machiavellian stupidity existing among the ruling classes. A slap in the face of reality that demands justice and entails a necessary reflection about the world in which we live, and the world from which
we collectively come. Brutality and cruelty have only increased in this beginning of the century, as if we learned nothing from the darkness of the twentieth century. Recently, we have witnessed how groups of men were led to their execution, and we have understood how terrible it was that they were walking the same path that many war victims walked before them, a path that has an unequivocal ending. Barbarism still rules, and man has learned nothing.

MARC JANUS
This work is the result of a four-months-long residence at La Neomudejar. The project I presented was about large format works dealing with universal justice. This project was born from experiences I had during my journeys, and my encounters with the cultures to which these paintings refer, whether in their own countries or in exile. From the beginning, the residence at La Neo was another journey, and like all my other journeys, in this one I have found wonderful people. There were challenges to be overcome. For someone who has always painted with studio light, painting with natural daylight was one of those challenges –“same same but different,” as Thai people say… This inconvenience ended up solving itself, but only after the many hours I spent staring a the empty space before starting to paint. Another challenge was to relate the work to its surroundings, since La Neo is a work of art by itself. Many of its walls only need a frame… I can’t compare myself with what I believe to be the best artist, time, and to the one hundred years it has had to work on these walls through decay, rain, and wind.
I only had for months, so I decided to bring some flowers, and those flowers are what you see here today. I hope you enjoy the work at least half of how much I enjoyed doing it. I am thankful to everyone who got involved in this project since the beginning, those who made the journey easy and pleasant: my family and friends, the people at La Neo, the artists who have collaborated with me to bring all of this to life, and my dear Andreea, who has allowed me to steal too much of our shared time without asking for a divorce. To all of you, my deepest gratitude.
This ride on the Ferris wheel has been so satisfying that I have asked for a second one and it has been granted to me. I will be an artist in residence at La Neo for four more months working on a project you will see very soon. Namaste.
